Meet Andi Graham.
I captain this ship. I design and develop. I oversee, organize and make decisions. I refine and revisit when necessary. I keep the ball rolling.
I’ve been freelancing as a web and graphic designer since college (way back in the late ’90s) and opened Big Sea in 2005, when I realized that my development abilities were never going to be good enough.
Education is really important to me. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, more undergrad fun in Visual Art, graduate work in Sociology and more in Mass Communication, with a concentration in Strategic Communication. My research always involved digital communication (user-interface design, branding on social networking websites and their effects on consumer behavior, to be specific). I’m known to throw myself fully into learning new skills, crafts or athletic pursuits just long enough for them to bore me – including knitting, stained glass, mosaics, Pilates, karate, pottery, gardening and tile-laying.
So is experience. It’s much easier to discuss projects with clients when I actually know what’s possible – and that means yes, I still think it’s really important to make time to do the work of designing and developing websites. I’m passionate and enthusiastic and sometimes, a little too confident. I require constant feedback and creative banter – which is why I work well with a team surrounding me. When asked, I’m an ENFP in every sense of the word.
My current passions include my three-year old daughter, baking, the beach, running and expensive beer. I write about those things on my personal blog. I love mayonnaise on just about everything. I’ve got a huge circle of amazing friends and close family, and consider myself one of the luckiest people I know.
I enjoy speaking and sharing knowledge at conferences, meet-ups and barcamps. You might have seen me:
- present my academic research on brand-building through social media at the American Academy of Advertising’s annual conference in 2008.
- lead a small business roundtable at Social Fresh Tampa in 2010.
- speaking at Future of Web Design in NYC, November 2011
- or perhaps you’re attending WordCamp Miami in February, 2012.
