Old Ironsides Fades. . .

March 2nd, 2008

My 2003 iBook is saying goodbye. Its 40 gb harddrive is crippled from the weight of music and movies that I try so hard to remember to move to my external. And its processor strains to handle even the Macromedia MX programs installed on it. I can’t use the left shift key nor the right arrow. And it has this funky smell emanating from the keyboard that has been identified by disgusted friends as either sweaty feet or wet mittens. It locks up when I open two programs simultaneously, and if there’s Flash on a page, well, just give her some time. She’s served me well, but she’s hardly kept up with the times.

It’s time to say goodbye. But what then, will I do when I need to work on the road? How will I take anything with me or answer emails from an outdoor table at Ceviche on a Tuesday afternoon?

Can anyone buy me a new MacBook??

Free legal forms

February 19th, 2008

Social networking works for me. Especially when the wiki mentality brings me DocStoc, a repository of any and all kinds of professional documents made by and for users. For free. Need a lease or contract? Very helpful for starting a new business, too. Like, say, me.

Iphone January Update

January 16th, 2008

While I’m pleased that Apple has built in all kinds of new features, I’m still peeved that I’m unable to do some basic things on my $400 Iphone. Like send a photo via text. Or receive a photo via text.

I mean seriously: these are things I’ve been able to do with my free LG’s from Verizon since 2001. I find it hard to imagine that Apple simply can’t figure it out; thus, I’m led to believe that for some reason they don’t want us to have that capability.

At least now I can text multiple people simultaneously. I was having a difficult time figuring out how to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year this season. Should I text everyone individually? I can’t even forward messages. Should I call them? I opted for the “don’t bother” method and it seemed to work flawlessly.

The Google maps locator thing is nice, but I doubt I’ll find much use. I’d rather have MMS. Ah, back to Apple to voice my opinion I guess. . .

Just an FYI . . .

January 2nd, 2008

In case you’ve been looking for me. I haven’t been in the office, nor online at home. We spent the past four days packing, cleaning and moving. And we’re almost done. But we don’t have internet until Friday between 2:00 and 5:00 pm. So please, do be patient with me.

And I hope you have the most awesomist of awesome years ever. I think that 2008 is going to be one of the best years of my life – and I’m not kidding.

Happy New Year, all.

Holiday Stress

December 28th, 2007

I know there’s holiday stress for everyone, but this year, for some reason, I was more stressed than ever. In addition to the usual gift-buying and no-money-having, I also have my usual Xmas party which was larger than ever, and my parents staying with us in our one-bedroom apartment. Then the stalker, which is a story unto itself, which required finding a new home and thinking about all of THAT mess.

On top of it all, I’ve got three new clients and projects – all of which I’m very excited about – but they just add to the things to do this week. . .

So I’m stressed, but it’s almost over and I’m happy to get back into the swing of my daily routine. Even though that means school will be starting again. But alas, that’s another story.

The Best Page in the Universe

December 11th, 2007

I like Crocs. They are perfect for walking my dog through wet grass in the morning; for canooing and wearing around a campsite. I can hose them off. I do not wear them out at night; and no farther than my local Publix.

All defenses aside, this is funny anyway.

Give me football or give me death!

November 30th, 2007

Quote of the week: The right for every man to watch any NFL game in the privacy of his own living room was “as American as waterboarding.”

But seriously. I’m well aware that to watch my team’s games, I’ll have to either buy the DirectTV package or visit a local sports bar. And on any given Sunday, that’s where you’ll find me, sitting comfortably at table with my friends drinking $5 pitchers of Bud Light.

But last night was different. Last night, Ferg’s was taken over en masse by two very different groups of people: Cowboys fans, and Packer fans. And it was crowded. Like spilling into the street crowded. Like stealing your barstool when you get up crowded.

Thanks, NFL Network.

25 Days . . .

November 30th, 2007

To devour all that is the pre-holiday advertising onslaught. Sunday paper inserts are my favorite, but I even enjoy the jingle bells laced throughout every tv spot. Not to mention all of the clever Flash e-cards being sent around by media agencies and other webby friends (Eckerd’s 2006 card still makes me chuckle). They just keep getting better.

I, for one, am planning to partake in my favorite of all holiday consumer experiences tonight: we’re getting our tree.

Here are some more cool cards . . .
